Re: Frank Worthington has bought the Farm
From an era where you had the feeling he'd just rocked up at the stadium for a game after a morning in the pub, he probably had and was still brilliant.

RIP

Re: Frank Worthington has bought the Farm
oh no, sad news. RIP Frank.

One of my favourite, if not my favourite non-West Ham player. Always the showman, long hair 70s style even when he went bald on top, great skills and played the game with a grin on his face. Produced the unexpected.

Always remember he loved the banter with the UP crowd. Before one game he was doing some warm up exercises but spent most of the time chatting to fan who had got in early. A couple of old dears with West Ham scarves spent 10 mins excitedly chatting with him in that "ooohh young man" way :-)

RIP

Re: Frank Worthington has bought the Farm
One goal he scored sticks out when playing for Bolton.....he had his back to goal in the penalty area, surrounded by defenders he knocked the ball over his head then swivelled on a six pence and volleyed the ball in the net. Top drawer!

Re: Frank Worthington has bought the Farm
One of the great mavericks when the game had plenty of similar characters, sadly such people are largely absent these days.

Re: Frank Worthington has bought the Farm
I like the story about his aborted move to Liverpool.

After signing, he initially failed the medical due to high blood pressure. Bill Shankley told him not to worry, and suggested a week's break in Majorca to relax.

'Worthington’s holiday consisted of seven days of heavy drinking involving two blonde Swedish females, a night with Miss Great Britain and an ‘encounter’ with another woman at the airport.

Worthington then did his medical again and, unsurprisingly, his blood pressure was even higher – the move was off and Shankly sent some flowers to Worthington’s mum.'

Great player. RIP

Absolute legend. Hero of mine when I was little. The other one from that era I used to like watching was Peter Barnes at City.
